Quality You Can Feel
At 55cm across, this Decorative Shield from Cameroon has real presence, and its hand-applied beadwork turns that scale into a genuine centrepiece rather than a background accent. Beading over a carved wooden base is a technique long associated with prestige pieces in Central African decorative art, and the density of colour here reflects that same attention to detail.
Large enough to anchor a stairwell or double-height wall on its own, this decor shield rewards being given some breathing room rather than being crowded by smaller pieces. If you do want to build it into a wider display, keep neighbouring pieces smaller in scale so the beaded shield keeps its role as the visual anchor.
A carved African shield of this size sits especially well above a Bamileke table or alongside a large decor mask, continuing the handcrafted, museum-quality feel through the rest of the room.
